South Africa to Argentina visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Argentina for tourism. They may enter visa-free for up to 90 days, extendable once for a further 90 days at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones. South Africa holds a reciprocal visa-waiver arrangement with Argentina dating from 1998, so ordinary South African passport holders enjoy visa-free entry for tourism, business or family visits for stays of up to 90 days. There is no electronic travel authorisation (no ETA or eVisa) required for short tourist stays, and no reciprocity/entry fee applies to South Africans (the old Argentine reciprocity fee only ever applied to the US, Canada and Australia and was abolished by 2018). At the port of entry travellers must satisfy an immigration officer of the genuine tourist purpose of the trip: a passport valid for at least six months with blank pages, proof of onward or return travel, evidence of sufficient funds, and accommodation details. The 90-day stay can be extended once for another 90 days by paying a prórroga de permanencia fee at the National Migration Directorate. A visa would only be required for stays beyond the cumulative allowance, or for work, study or other non-tourist purposes, in which case application is made through the Argentine Embassy in Pretoria/Buenos Aires consular network.
