Do Vietnam passport holders need a visa to visit GR?
Yes — a Vietnamese ordinary passport holder needs a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Greece for tourism. Vietnam is not on the EU visa-exempt list, so ETIAS does not apply; you must apply for the visa before travel. Greece is a full member of the Schengen Area, and Vietnam is NOT among the countries whose nationals enjoy visa-free short stays. Therefore a Vietnamese ordinary passport holder must obtain a Schengen Type C short-stay visa before traveling to Greece for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are filed at the Embassy of Greece in Hanoi or through the authorised visa centre (VFS Global) in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The standard adult visa fee is EUR 90, plus a service-centre fee and mandatory travel insurance (minimum EUR 30,000 medical cover). Standard processing is about 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days in peak season or complex cases, so apply 3-6 weeks ahead (no earlier than 6 months before travel). Because Vietnam is visa-required, the new ETIAS travel authorisation (launching late 2026) does NOT apply to Vietnamese nationals — they continue to use the full visa route. Note also the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) went live on 10 April 2026, so first entry now involves biometric registration at the border.
