Do Vietnam passport holders need a visa to visit Finland?
Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Finland for tourism. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival option, and ETIAS does not apply to Vietnamese nationals. Finland is a member of the Schengen Area, and Vietnam is on the list of nationalities that require a visa to enter. A Vietnamese ordinary passport holder must therefore apply for a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before departure — there is no visa-free entry, no visa-on-arrival, and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorization does NOT cover Vietnam (ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationalities). The visa permits a stay of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are submitted in person, with biometrics, through the VFS Global visa application centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which act on behalf of the Embassy of Finland. The standard visa fee is EUR 90 for adults (EUR 45 for children aged 6–11, free under 6), payable in addition to a VFS service charge. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but can take longer in peak season, so applying 3–4 weeks ahead (and up to 6 months in advance) is recommended. Required documents include the application form, a passport valid at least 3 months beyond the intended departure, a recent photo, travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage, proof of accommodation, round-trip flight reservation, proof of financial means (about EUR 50/day), and proof of employment or ties to Vietnam.
