United States to Tajikistan visa requirements

U.S. ordinary passport holders can enter Tajikistan visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days. No visa or e-visa is needed for short visits. Since January 1, 2022, Tajikistan grants unilateral visa-free entry to U.S. citizens (and 50+ other nationalities) for stays of up to 30 days, regardless of travel purpose, including tourism. This remains in effect as of mid-2026 and was reaffirmed/expanded by a March 28, 2024 government decree. No advance application, e-visa, or visa-on-arrival is required for a short tourist visit within the 30-day window. Two practical caveats apply: (1) if you stay 10 days or longer you must register with OVIR (Ministry of Internal Affairs) within 10 days of arrival; and (2) if you intend to visit the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO / the Pamirs), you need a separate GBAO travel permit, which is NOT covered by visa-free status and must be obtained separately. Passports must be valid at least 6 months with at least 2 blank pages. For stays longer than 30 days, travelers must instead obtain a visa (the e-visa system has experienced suspensions; a consular/standard visa is the fallback). The U.S. State Department maintains a Level 2 "Exercise Increased Caution" advisory and Level 4 "Do Not Travel" for the Afghanistan border area.
