United States to Suriname visa requirements

US passport holders need an entry document for Suriname, but not a traditional consular visa. For tourism you obtain an electronic Tourist Card (e-Tourist Card) online through VFS Global, the Suriname government's official partner, before you travel. It is single-entry, valid for a stay of up to 90 days, and costs roughly USD 25 plus a service fee. A USD 25 paper Tourist Card is also still sold at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, but applying online in advance is the recommended and most reliable route. A United States ordinary passport holder cannot enter Suriname purely visa-free for tourism; an entry permit is required. The standard tourist channel is the Suriname Tourist Card, now issued electronically as an e-Tourist Card through the official government partner VFS Global. Travelers register an account, upload their passport bio page and return/onward ticket, pay online, and receive a PDF Tourist Card by email. The card is single entry and authorizes a tourist stay of up to 90 days from the date of entry. A passport valid for at least six months and a confirmed return or onward ticket are required, and immigration officers may check proof of funds and lodging. Yellow fever vaccination is only required if arriving from a country with yellow fever risk, which does not include the United States. The e-Tourist Card must be applied for at least 72 hours before departure; applying 1-2 weeks ahead is safer. The Tourist Card is strictly for tourism. For business or stays longer than three months, a separate Surinamese visa or Authorization for Temporary Stay (MKV) must be obtained in advance. A USD 25 paper Tourist Card remains available at the airport on arrival, but the online e-Tourist Card is the recommended method.
