United States to Rwanda visa requirements

US passport holders can enter Rwanda with a visa on arrival, issued to all nationalities without prior application. The V1 tourist visa costs USD 50 for single entry (30 days) or USD 70 for multiple entry (90 days). You can also apply online in advance via the Irembo eVisa portal if you prefer a pre-approved entry. As of mid-2026, Rwanda offers visa on arrival to citizens of all countries, including the United States, with no advance application required. A US tourist obtains the V1 Holiday/Tourist visa on landing at Kigali International Airport or at any land border. The standard single-entry visa is USD 50 and permits a 30-day stay; a multiple-entry option is USD 70 and allows up to 90 days. The same visa can alternatively be obtained in advance as an eVisa through the official Irembo government portal (irembo.gov.rw), which is useful for travelers who want confirmation before flying. Passports must be valid for at least six months. Rwanda is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers planning to also visit Kenya and Uganda may prefer the East Africa Tourist Visa (around USD 100, 90-day multiple entry across the three countries). Rwanda warns against using unauthorized agents who overcharge; apply only through official channels or pay the fixed fee at the border. Work is not permitted on this visa.
