United States to Namibia visa requirements

US passport holders need a visa for Namibia as of April 1, 2025. A tourist visa is issued on arrival (N$1,600, about US$90) at major airports and border posts, and travelers can also apply in advance through Namibia's online visa-on-arrival portal. Namibia ended its long-standing visa-free arrangement for US citizens effective April 1, 2025. US ordinary passport holders traveling for tourism now require a visa, which is available on arrival at designated ports of entry for a fee of N$1,600 (roughly US$90). The Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS) also operates an online portal (eservices.mhaiss.gov.na) where travelers can complete the visa-on-arrival application in advance; those who apply online must carry a printed copy of the approval notice when traveling. The standard entry period granted is typically 30 days, with up to 90 days possible at the discretion of the immigration officer. Passports must have at least six months of validity beyond the planned departure date and at least three completely blank pages. Namibia is in southern Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. This change was implemented on the basis of diplomatic reciprocity, as Namibian nationals require visas to enter the US and many other affected countries. Because the system is relatively new and implementation details can change, travelers are strongly advised to verify current requirements with the US Embassy in Namibia and apply online ahead of travel where possible.
