🇺🇸United States🇱🇷LiberiaUS-LR United States to Liberia visa requirements
US passport holders must obtain a Liberian visa from the Embassy of Liberia in Washington, DC before travel. There is no visa on arrival, and US citizens are NOT eligible for Liberia's online eVisa/visa-on-arrival portal because Liberia has an embassy in the United States. Arriving without a visa can result in immediate deportation. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is also mandatory. A United States ordinary passport holder traveling to Liberia for tourism must secure a visa in advance from the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Washington, DC (or the Liberian Consulate in New York). Liberia launched an electronic visa-on-arrival system in March 2025, but it explicitly excludes travelers from countries that host a Liberian embassy or mission, including the United States, so US citizens cannot use the online portal or obtain a visa at Roberts International Airport or land borders. The standard tourist visa is a single-entry visa valid for 1-3 months, costing US $70 for the regular consular service (12 working days). Same-day (+$75) and next-day (+$50) expedited options exist for walk-ins. Multiple-entry options (1-year and 3-year) are available at higher fees. All fees are non-refundable and must be paid in US dollars by money order, cashier's check, or bank draft (no cash or personal checks). Required documents include a passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, a 2x2 passport photo, the completed application form, and a prepaid self-addressed return envelope with tracking. A WHO yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. The US State Department warns that travelers without a valid Liberian visa may be deported immediately on arrival.
