United States to Bangladesh visa requirements

US passport holders can obtain a Bangladesh Visa on Arrival for tourism (max 30 days, single entry) for about USD 51, but issuance is discretionary, so the U.S. Embassy recommends getting a visa in advance. A U.S. ordinary passport holder traveling to Bangladesh for tourism is eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and certain designated ports of entry. The VoA is issued for a maximum of 30 days, single entry, at the sole discretion of the immigration officer. The fee is approximately USD 51 (payable in cash in US dollars, euros, or pounds). To qualify, travelers must hold a passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, show a confirmed return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation or an invitation, and carry at least USD 500 in cash or on a credit card. Bangladesh does not yet operate a full electronic visa; the official online portal (visa.gov.bd / Online MRV) is a form-completion tool whose printed application and documents must still be submitted to a Bangladesh mission. Because VoA is a privilege rather than a right and some U.S. citizens have been denied entry, the U.S. Embassy strongly recommends obtaining a tourist visa in advance from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C., or a consulate (New York or Los Angeles) before travel. Bangladesh is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
