Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) to Romania visa requirements

Taiwan ordinary passport holders can travel to Romania visa-free for short tourist stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Romania became a full Schengen Area member on 1 January 2025, so Taiwan passport holders enjoy the same Schengen visa-waiver they already had. No visa or pre-travel authorization is required as of 1 June 2026. ETIAS (a paid travel authorization, not a visa) is expected to launch in Q4 2026 and will eventually become mandatory after a transitional period, but it is NOT required yet. Taiwan (Republic of China) ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for the Schengen Area, which Romania fully joined on 1 January 2025 (air and sea borders opened 31 March 2024; land borders 1 January 2025). This allows tourist, business and family-visit stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across all Schengen states combined. No visa or entry permit is needed in advance. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the last 10 years, and should be ready to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds (a commonly cited guideline is roughly EUR 50 per day) and travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000. Border officers retain discretion to ask for these and to deny entry. Importantly, the 90-day clock is shared across the entire Schengen Area, not per country, so days spent in Romania count together with any time in France, Germany, Italy, etc. The EU's ETIAS pre-travel authorization is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period of at least six months, meaning it is not yet required for entry as of 1 June 2026; once enforced, eligible Taiwan travelers will need a valid ETIAS before boarding. The separate Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric registration is also being rolled out at Schengen external borders. Note that Taiwan's printed national ID number must match the passport, and only ordinary (not emergency or alien) Taiwan passports containing the personal ID number qualify for visa-free Schengen entry.
