Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) to Puerto Rico visa requirements

Taiwan ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for a short tourist visit to Puerto Rico, but because Puerto Rico is a US territory, you must obtain an approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) under the US Visa Waiver Program before you travel. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States and applies the exact same entry rules as the US mainland. Taiwan is a participant in the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP), so a Taiwan ordinary passport holder may travel to Puerto Rico for tourism for up to 90 days without a traditional B1/B2 visa. However, VWP travel requires an approved ESTA obtained online before boarding, plus a valid electronic (e-)passport. ESTA is not a visa but a pre-travel authorization; it is generally valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first, and permits multiple entries of up to 90 days each. The ESTA fee was raised in late 2025 to USD 40 (a USD 13 processing fee plus a USD 27 authorization fee). Applications are usually approved within minutes to 72 hours. Travelers should apply at least 72 hours before departure. Puerto Rico is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply here.
