Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa to visit NL?

Taiwan ordinary passport holders can visit the Netherlands visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required as of May 2026. The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area, and Taiwan ordinary passport holders have enjoyed visa-free access to Schengen since 11 January 2011. You may enter for tourism, business or family visits and stay a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period without applying for a visa in advance. The exemption applies only to ordinary Taiwan passports that display the holder's national ID card number; the passport must have been issued within the past 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area. At the border you may be asked to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds and travel insurance. ETIAS (the EU travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationals) is expected to launch around the last quarter of 2026 but is NOT yet in operation as of 30 May 2026, so no online authorisation is currently required. Once ETIAS goes live, Taiwan travellers will need to obtain it (around EUR 20, valid 3 years) before departure. Stays beyond 90 days, work or study require a national long-stay (MVV) visa from the Dutch authorities.
