Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa to visit Italy (Schengen)?

Taiwan ordinary passport holders can travel to Italy visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026. Holders of an ordinary Taiwan (ROC) passport that contains the bearer's national ID number enjoy Schengen visa-free entry to Italy for short stays. You may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period for tourism, family visits or business, across the entire Schengen area (not just Italy). No visa application or fee is required before travel. Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. The 90/180 limit is cumulative across all Schengen countries combined. As of 30 May 2026, the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation is NOT yet operational, so no pre-travel authorisation is needed; ETIAS is officially expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026, after which Taiwan travellers will need to obtain it online before departure (still visa-free, but with a small fee). At the border you should be ready to show proof of accommodation, a return/onward ticket and sufficient funds.
