Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) to Ireland visa requirements

No visa is required. Taiwan ordinary passport holders can enter Ireland visa-free for tourism and short visits of up to 90 days. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Holders of an ordinary Taiwan (Republic of China) passport do not need a visa to visit Ireland for tourism or other short stays of up to 90 days. Ireland waived the short-stay visa requirement for Taiwanese passport holders on 1 July 2009, and Taiwan remains on Ireland's non-visa-required list as of 2026. Crucially, Ireland is a member of the EU but is NOT part of the Schengen Area — it operates the Common Travel Area with the UK and sets its own independent visa policy. This means the Schengen 90/180-day calculation does not apply to time spent in Ireland, and the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation does not apply to Ireland either (ETIAS only covers Schengen-area countries). At the border, Taiwanese visitors must satisfy an immigration officer of the purpose of their trip and may be asked for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds; the length of stay granted (up to 90 days) is at the discretion of the immigration officer. The passport should be machine-readable and valid for the duration of the stay; carrying at least six months' validity is recommended best practice. If you plan to work, study long-term, or stay beyond 90 days, a different permission/visa is required.
