Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) to Finland visa requirements

Taiwan ordinary passport holders can visit Finland visa-free for tourism and other permitted short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, provided the passport contains a national identity card number. As of 2026-06-29, ETIAS is not operational or required. Finland is a Schengen Area member state. Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs lists accepted Taiwan passports and states that holders of Taiwan passports with a national identity card number are visa-free to the Schengen Area and Finland. EUR-Lex Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 also places Taiwan in Annex II with the condition that the exemption applies only to passports that include an identity card number. A qualifying Taiwan ordinary passport holder may therefore visit Finland and the wider Schengen Area for tourism, family visits, routine business meetings, transit, or other short permitted purposes for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period without a visa. The 90-day allowance is shared across all Schengen countries, not counted separately for Finland. The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure from the Schengen Area. Border officers may ask for proof of onward or return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds, travel medical insurance, and purpose of stay. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully operational at Schengen external borders and may record fingerprints, a facial image, and entry/exit data, but it has no fee and does not change the visa-free status. ETIAS is separate from EES; as of 2026-06-29 it is not in operation, applications are not open, and no ETIAS authorization is required. The European Commission schedules ETIAS to start in the last quarter of 2026, after which qualifying Taiwan travelers should check the official EU site before departure and apply once it becomes mandatory.
