🇹🇼TAIWAN🇩🇪GERMANY (SCHENGEN)TW-DE Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa to visit Germany (Schengen)?
Taiwan ordinary passport holders can visit Germany visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. No visa is required today; ETIAS (a EUR 20 travel authorisation) is expected to become mandatory only after its Q4 2026 launch. Germany is part of the Schengen Area, and Taiwan is on the EU's visa-exemption list. Holders of an ordinary Taiwan passport that contains the holder's national identity card number may enter Germany and the wider Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, for tourism, family visits, or business (no paid employment). The exemption applies only to ordinary passports printed with the ID number; passports without it are not eligible for visa-free entry. No fee or advance application is required as of 30 May 2026. Travellers should still carry a passport valid at least 3 months beyond departure, proof of onward/return travel, evidence of sufficient funds, accommodation details, and travel health insurance, which border police may request. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026; once operational and after a transition period, visa-exempt Taiwan travellers will need an approved ETIAS (EUR 20, valid up to 3 years) before boarding. It is not yet required for travel today.
