Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa to visit Australia?
ETA (Subclass 601) required, AUD 20 service charge. Up to 3-month stays, 12-month validity, multiple entries. Apply via the Australian ETA app. Taiwan ordinary passport holders (Republic of China passport bearing a national ID number) need an Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, Subclass 601) for tourism, visiting family, or short business visits. Taiwan is on the official Home Affairs list of ETA-eligible passports, alongside Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei, Canada and the USA. Taiwan is NOT eligible for the free eVisitor (Subclass 651), which is reserved for European passport holders, so Taiwanese citizens pay the AUD 20 service charge. The ETA must be applied for through the official Australian ETA app on iOS or Android — there is no web portal or paper application. It allows multiple entries with up to 3 months stay per visit and is valid for 12 months or until passport expiry. Approval is usually within minutes. Holders of ROC passports without a national ID number (non-registered nationals) generally cannot apply unless they hold permanent residency in a third country.
