Do Türkiye passport holders need a visa to visit Japan?

No visa needed. Türkiye ordinary passport holders can enter Japan visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, provided they hold an ICAO-compliant machine-readable passport (MRP). Türkiye has a visa-exemption arrangement with Japan that has been in force since 1 April 2011. Holders of an ordinary Turkish passport may enter Japan for short-term stays (tourism, business, visiting friends/relatives) without a visa for up to 90 days. The exemption applies ONLY to holders of a machine-readable passport (MRP) that complies with ICAO standards; travelers carrying an older, non-machine-readable passport are advised to obtain a visa in advance or risk being refused entry. No advance online registration, ETA, or eVisa is required for Türkiye nationals — Türkiye is not on Japan's eVisa eligibility list, and it does not need to be, because the visa-free arrangement covers ordinary tourist visits. The 90-day stay is granted as a Temporary Visitor landing permission on arrival. Türkiye is NOT among the small group of nationalities (UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Mexico) that can extend a visa-exempt stay to a total of six months; Turkish travelers are limited to 90 days per entry. No remunerative (paid) activity is permitted under the visa exemption. Travelers should carry proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds, as immigration officers may request them at the border.
