Türkiye to Greece visa requirements
Yes, Turkish ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Greece. Greece is in the Schengen Area, so general tourism requires a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa applied for in advance through the Greek Visa Application Centre. A separate exception exists: a EUR 60 single-entry "Visa Express" visa-on-arrival valid for 7 days, but ONLY for 12 designated Aegean islands and not for mainland Greece or onward Schengen travel. Turkey is not a Schengen visa-exempt country, so an ordinary (burgundy) Turkish passport holder must obtain a Schengen Type C short-stay visa before traveling to mainland Greece or for any general tourism within the Schengen Area. Applications are submitted through VFS Global / the Greek Visa Application Centre in Turkey (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Edirne and others) when Greece is the main destination or first point of entry. The standard short-stay fee is EUR 90, and the visa permits stays under the Schengen rule of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across all Schengen states combined. Because Turkey requires a full Schengen visa, ETIAS (the upcoming EU travel authorization, expected Q4 2026) does NOT apply to Turkish nationals - they continue with the conventional visa process. Separately, Greece operates a popular "Visa Express" visa-on-arrival scheme (extended through April 2027) allowing Turkish citizens to obtain a EUR 60, single-entry, 7-day visa at the ports of 12 specified Aegean islands (Rhodes, Kos, Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Symi, Lemnos, Kalymnos, Kastellorizo, Leros, Patmos, Samothrace). This island visa cannot be used to reach mainland Greece or any other Schengen country. For mainland visits, longer stays, or multi-country Schengen trips, the standard advance Schengen C visa is required.
