🇹🇭Thailand🇹🇱Timor-LesteTH-TL Thailand to Timor-Leste visa requirements
Thai ordinary passport holders can enter Timor-Leste visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, under a bilateral visa exemption agreement that entered into force on 22 November 2024. As of mid-2026, a Thailand (TH) ordinary passport holder does NOT need a visa for a short tourist visit to Timor-Leste (TL). Under the Thailand-Timor-Leste Agreement on Visa Exemption for Tourism Purposes for Holders of Ordinary Passports, signed on 21 June 2024 and effective from 22 November 2024, ordinary passport holders of both countries may stay for a maximum of 30 days for tourism, shopping, and educational purposes without a visa. The agreement is reciprocal and confirmed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili. Timor-Leste is NOT in the Schengen area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies. Before this agreement, Thai citizens relied on a USD 30 visa on arrival (30 days) at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili or the Dili Sea Port; that channel still exists for non-exempt travelers and for stays/purposes outside the waiver, but ordinary tourist visitors no longer need it. The visa-free entry permits tourism only and does not allow employment or paid activity. Travelers must hold a passport valid at least six months beyond arrival and should carry proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. The 30-day visa-free period can typically be extended once for a further 30 days through the Immigration Service (Migracao) for a fee. Always verify the latest status with the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili or the Timor-Leste Immigration Service before travel, as ATM and currency-exchange facilities at entry points can be limited.
