Thailand to Russian Federation visa requirements

Thai ordinary passport holders can visit Russia visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism under the long-standing Russia-Thailand bilateral visa-waiver agreement. Since 30 June 2025, travelers are expected to register in the RuID app and obtain a free QR-code travel authorization before arrival. Russia is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Thailand and Russia maintain a bilateral visa-exemption agreement (originally signed in 2005) that lets holders of an ordinary Thai passport enter, transit, and stay in Russia without a visa for up to 30 days per visit for tourism and short business/visit purposes. No consular visa or fee is required for this channel. From 30 June 2025, Russia rolled out the RuID electronic travel authorization: visa-free visitors create a digital profile in the RuID app (or via the Gosuslugi web portal), submit personal and biometric data, and receive a personalized QR code to present at the border. Registration should be completed at least 72 hours before arrival (and can be done up to 90 days ahead) and is free of charge. During an experimental period running through 31 December 2027 the QR code is officially described as not strictly mandatory for visa-free tourists, but authorities strongly recommend obtaining it to avoid delays, and guidance increasingly treats it as a practical requirement, so travelers should register. The 30-day visa-free stay cannot be extended and does not permit paid work. Travelers needing a longer stay, multiple entries within a 120-day window, or who prefer added certainty can instead use Russia's Unified e-Visa (single entry, up to 16 days stay, valid 60 days, EUR 52 / online application). Russia is not a Schengen state, so the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule and the EU ETIAS authorization are irrelevant to this route. Passport should be valid at least six months beyond the planned departure date, and travelers should hold a confirmed onward/return ticket within 30 days plus, ideally, travel medical insurance.
