Thailand to Myanmar visa requirements
Thai ordinary passport holders can enter Myanmar visa-free for up to 14 days for tourism when arriving and departing through an international airport (Yangon, Mandalay or Naypyidaw), under the 2015 Thailand-Myanmar bilateral visa-exemption agreement. For stays beyond 14 days, or for land-border entry, a Myanmar eVisa (28-day stay, USD 50) is required. Thailand and Myanmar signed a reciprocal bilateral visa-exemption agreement that took effect on 11 August 2015, allowing ordinary-passport holders of each country to make visa-free visits of up to 14 days. The exemption remains in force as of mid-2026 and is confirmed by multiple immigration-reference sources. The key condition is that the traveler must enter AND exit through one of Myanmar's three international airports: Yangon (RGN), Mandalay (MDL) or Naypyidaw (NYT). The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond arrival, and proof of onward/return travel may be requested. Land border crossings from Thailand are NOT covered by the 14-day air exemption; travelers entering overland, or anyone wishing to stay longer than 14 days, must obtain a Myanmar eVisa in advance. The official government tourist eVisa (evisa.moip.gov.mm) costs USD 50, permits a single entry with a 28-day stay, is valid for 90 days from issuance, and is typically processed within about 3 working days. Travelers should also note that several governments maintain elevated travel advisories for Myanmar due to ongoing armed conflict and civil unrest; the visa exemption is purely an immigration matter and does not reflect on-the-ground safety. For this profile (a short tourist visit arriving by air), the best-fit channel is visa-free entry for 14 days.
