Thailand to Montenegro visa requirements

Thai ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Montenegro for tourism. There is no passport-based visa-free entry for ordinary Thai passports (only diplomatic/official passports get 90 days). However, if you already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Japanese or New Zealand visa or residence permit (or an APEC Business Travel Card), you may enter Montenegro visa-free for up to 30 days. As of 1 June 2026, a Thailand ORDINARY passport is NOT on Montenegro's list of nationalities exempt from the visa requirement. Montenegro's visa policy grants visa-free entry of up to 90 days only to holders of Thai diplomatic and official (non-ordinary) passports; ordinary passport holders traveling for tourism must obtain a visa in advance. The one practical no-visa channel is conditional: under Montenegro's "third-country visa/residence holder" rule, any traveler (regardless of nationality, including Thai ordinary passport holders) who carries a valid Schengen visa, or a valid visa or residence permit of Australia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the USA or the UK, may enter and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days (and no longer than the validity of that visa/permit if shorter). The same applies to holders of an APEC Business Travel Card. Travelers without one of those qualifying documents should apply for a Montenegrin short-stay (type C) visa through a Montenegrin diplomatic mission (Montenegro has no embassy in Bangkok; applications are typically handled by the Montenegrin mission accredited to Thailand or a designated representation). Passports should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended date of departure with at least two blank pages. Montenegro is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not govern entry to Montenegro itself, although a Schengen visa is one of the documents that unlocks the 30-day visa-free transit/stay channel. Because sources conflict (some aggregators wrongly state visa-free), the conservative and correct verdict for an ordinary passport is visa-required.
