Thailand to The Gambia visa requirements

Thai ordinary passport holders are not on The Gambia's visa-exemption list, but because there is no Gambian embassy or consulate in Thailand, travelers can obtain a visa on arrival at Banjul International Airport. Plan to pay the visa fee plus a separate airport security fee in cash, and carry a yellow fever certificate if arriving from a risk country. A Thailand ordinary passport is NOT visa-exempt for The Gambia. Gambia waives visas only for African Union, Commonwealth, EU and EFTA member states, ECOWAS, and a short individual list (Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, UAE, UK, Vatican). Thailand is on none of these lists, so a visa is required. However, Gambia's policy allows nationals of countries that have no Gambian diplomatic mission to enter and obtain a visa on arrival at Banjul International Airport (BJL); Thailand has no Gambian embassy or consulate, so visa on arrival is the practical channel for Thai tourists. The single-entry tourist visa is typically valid for short stays (commonly issued for up to about 30 days, extendable in Banjul). Travelers without a pre-arranged visa are admitted but must present their passport to the Immigration Department in Banjul within 48 hours to be issued the proper visa. All arriving and departing passengers pay an airport security fee of USD 20 (or D1,000) in cash. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever risk country. Fees are payable in cash only (USD, GBP, EUR or dalasi). Note: charter-flight tourists are exempt from the visa requirement, but a standard scheduled-flight Thai tourist should plan for the visa on arrival. Conservatively, confirm current fees and eligibility directly with Gambia Immigration before travel, as conditions and pricing have changed in 2024-2025.
