Thailand to Eritrea visa requirements

Thai ordinary passport holders need a visa obtained in advance from an Eritrean diplomatic mission before traveling to Eritrea. There is no visa-free entry, no visa on arrival, and no public eVisa for Thai citizens. Eritrea operates a restrictive visa regime. Only a handful of nationalities (notably Kenya and Uganda) enter visa-free, and visa-on-arrival is limited to immediate neighbors such as Ethiopia and Sudan. Thailand is not on any visa-exempt or visa-on-arrival list, and Eritrea does not offer a general public eVisa portal for tourists. Therefore a Thai ordinary passport holder must apply for a tourist visa in advance through an Eritrean embassy or consulate (applications are processed via the Consular Affairs Processing System, CAPS, with the original passport mailed/submitted to the mission). The tourist visa is valid for three months from the date of issue (you must arrive within that window) and permits a stay of about 30 days per entry, extendable at the Immigration office in Asmara. Processing takes a minimum of 15 business days, so travelers should apply well ahead. A passport valid at least six months beyond the trip, proof of sufficient funds, and a recent photo are required; travelers arriving from yellow fever risk areas must carry a vaccination certificate. Note that as of 2024-2026 Eritrea has not introduced any new visa-free, eVisa or ETA scheme for Thai nationals, so the conservative and accurate verdict is visa-required.
