Sweden to Japan visa requirements

Swedish ordinary passport holders can visit Japan visa-free for eligible unpaid short stays of up to 90 days; Visit Japan Web is recommended for arrival procedures. Swedish ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for Japan for stays of 90 days or less for tourism, recreation, amateur sports, visiting relatives, unpaid lectures or meetings, study, conferences, business contacts, unpaid internships, short journalism, and similar non-paid activities. Immigration normally grants a 90-day Temporary Visitor landing permission on arrival. Travellers should carry a fixed-date confirmed return or onward ticket, purpose and accommodation documents, and evidence of sufficient funds in case requested. Temporary Visitor stays are capped at 180 days in any 12-month period. Paid activities and intended stays beyond the visa-exemption period require the proper visa before travel. Ordinary Swedish passports, and Sweden's pink temporary passport when valid through the whole stay, are accepted under this guidance; Swedish residence permits, travel documents, and alien passports do not count as Swedish passports. Visit Japan Web is a free official service for immigration, customs, and tax-free shopping procedures, and Japan Customs recommends electronic customs declarations through it, but it is not a visa or entry authorization. Japan eVISA is for eligible visa-required travellers; Swedish short-term visa-exempt visitors do not need Japan eVISA or any current JESTA-style pre-travel authorization as of 2026-06-21.
