Saudi Arabia to Portugal visa requirements

Yes - a Saudi Arabia ordinary passport holder needs a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Portugal for tourism. Saudi nationals are not visa-exempt for the Schengen Area, so ETIAS does not apply to them; they must obtain a full Schengen visa before travel, applying through VFS Global in Saudi Arabia. Portugal is part of the Schengen Area, and Saudi Arabia is not on the EU list of visa-exempt third countries. Therefore Saudi ordinary passport holders must obtain a Schengen Uniform Short-Stay Visa (Type C) before traveling for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen states (currently 29 countries), with Portugal as the main destination determining where the application is filed. Applications for Saudi residents are submitted through VFS Global visa application centres in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar on behalf of the Portuguese Embassy. The standard adult visa fee rose from EUR 80 to EUR 90 effective 11 June 2026. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days during peak periods. Required documents include a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond departure, travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage, confirmed round-trip flights, accommodation proof, and evidence of financial means. ETIAS (the EU travel authorization, expected late 2026) applies only to visa-exempt nationals and does NOT replace the Schengen visa for Saudi citizens.
