Russian Federation to Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Taiwan for tourism. Taiwan's visa-free trial program for Russian nationals expired on 31 July 2022 and has not been reinstated, and Russia is not on Taiwan's eVisa eligible-nationalities list. You must obtain a single-entry visitor (tourist) visa in advance from the Taipei representative office in Moscow. As of mid-2026, citizens of Russia holding an ordinary passport require a visa to enter Taiwan for tourism or a short visit. Taiwan (Republic of China) is not part of the Schengen area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies. From 2018 Taiwan ran a trial visa-free program for Russian ordinary passport holders (21-day stays), but that program expired on 31 July 2022 and Russia was excluded when the trial scheme was extended for other partner countries in July 2023; the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) still lists the extension as "under evaluation," meaning no visa-free channel currently exists. Russia is also not among the nationalities eligible for Taiwan's eVisa (which covers a fixed list such as Türkiye, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and others, but not Russia). Therefore the only route for an independent Russian tourist is a paper visitor (tourist) visa applied for in person at the Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission before travel. A single-entry visitor visa costs USD 50, is typically valid for 3 months from issue, and allows a stay of up to 14, 30, 60 or 90 days as granted. Processing normally takes about 2 to 10 working days. Because sources conflict (some aggregator sites still wrongly show 21-day visa-free), the conservative and officially confirmed position is visa-required.
