🇷🇺Russian Federation🇲🇼MalawiRU-MW Russian Federation to Malawi visa requirements
Russian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Malawi. The fastest route is the official Malawi eVisa, applied for online at evisa.gov.mw before travel. Visa-free access that Russia briefly enjoyed (Feb 2024 to Jan 2026) was revoked effective 3 January 2026. As of 30 May 2026, a Russian citizen on an ordinary passport requires a visa to enter Malawi for tourism. Malawi granted Russia visa-free access in February 2024 as part of a 48-country liberalisation, but reversed this under a new reciprocity-based policy that took effect on 3 January 2026, restoring visa requirements for Russia and many other nations. The recommended and fastest channel is the electronic visa (eVisa) obtained in advance through Malawi's official portal at evisa.gov.mw, operated by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services. A single-entry tourist eVisa carries an official government fee of USD 75 and permits a stay of up to 90 days; multiple-entry options (6-month / 12-month validity) are also available at USD 150 and USD 250 respectively. Applicants create an account, upload a passport bio-page photo, a passport-style photo and travel details, pay by Visa or Mastercard, and typically receive an electronic authorisation within a few business days. Travellers should carry a printed eVisa approval on arrival, hold a passport valid at least six months with a blank page, and have proof of onward travel and accommodation. Because Malawi's policy shifted recently and is reciprocity-driven, travellers should re-confirm the rules on the official portal close to departure.
