Russian Federation to Mauritania visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders need a Mauritania eVisa, obtained online before boarding. The old visa-on-arrival ended on 5 January 2025; the eVisa is now mandatory for all visa-required nationals, with the fee paid in cash (EUR/USD) on arrival. As of 30 May 2026, a Russia (RU) ordinary passport holder traveling to Mauritania for tourism must obtain an electronic visa (eVisa) before departure. Mauritania launched its eVisa system on 5 January 2025 through the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS), making it compulsory for all visa-required nationals to hold an approved eVisa before boarding their flight. The previous visa-on-arrival option at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport has been discontinued for ordinary passport holders, and Mauritanian embassies/consulates have largely stopped issuing paper visas, redirecting applicants to the online system. Russia is not on Mauritania's short visa-exempt list (which covers a handful of African states such as Algeria, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Gambia, Tunisia, etc.); only Russian diplomatic/service passport holders are exempt. The standard tourist eVisa is single-entry for a 30-day stay, with longer-validity and multiple-entry options available. A distinctive feature of the Mauritanian system is that the visa fee (commonly quoted at €55, roughly equivalent to US$60) is typically collected in cash, in exact euros or US dollars, upon arrival at the airport after the online application has been approved and the QR-code confirmation presented. Travelers should carry a printed eVisa approval/QR code, a passport valid at least 6 months with two blank pages, proof of onward travel, accommodation details and sufficient funds. Mauritania is in West Africa and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
