Russian Federation to Iceland visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders MUST obtain a Schengen Type C short-stay visa before traveling to Iceland. There is no visa-free, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival channel. ETIAS does not apply to Russians (it is only for visa-exempt nationals). Iceland is a full member of the Schengen Area, so entry is governed by common Schengen rules. Russia is on the EU's list of nationalities that require a visa for any short stay, and there is no bilateral visa-waiver agreement. A Russian ordinary passport holder must apply for a uniform Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa at the competent consulate or visa application centre BEFORE travel. Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU fully suspended the EU-Russia Visa Facilitation Agreement effective 12 September 2022; as a result Russian applicants are subject to the general visa regime: the fee rose to EUR 80, more documentation is required, processing deadlines are longer, and multiple-entry visas are restricted. From 7 November 2025 the European Commission tightened rules further, so Russian nationals will, with limited exceptions, generally receive only single-entry visas and must re-apply for each trip. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. ETIAS does NOT apply to Russian citizens because it covers only visa-exempt travelers; however, the Entry/Exit System (EES), which began phased rollout on 12 October 2025, applies to all travelers including visa holders and records biometrics (facial image and fingerprints) at the external border. Russian travelers should apply well in advance, demonstrate strong ties and clear travel purpose, and carry full supporting documents including travel medical insurance, proof of accommodation, return travel, and sufficient funds.
