Russian Federation to Georgia visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Georgia. They may enter visa-free and stay for up to 365 days (1 full year) per entry for tourism or short visits. No advance application is required — just present a valid passport at the border. Note: from January 1, 2026, ALL foreign visitors (including visa-free Russians) must carry valid travel health insurance with minimum coverage of GEL 30,000 for the entire stay. Georgia maintains one of the world's most liberal visa regimes for Russian citizens. A Russia (RU) ordinary passport holder can travel to Georgia for tourism without any visa and is granted up to 365 consecutive days of stay at the port of entry. Georgia is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. The visa-free arrangement is unilateral on Georgia's side (Georgia allows visa-free entry to nationals of around 90+ countries, including Russia, for up to one year). Direct Russia-Georgia flights resumed in 2023, and travel remains open as of mid-2026, though most travelers also arrive overland via the Upper Lars (Verkhny Lars) border crossing or via third countries such as Armenia, Turkey, or Azerbaijan. The single most important recent change is the mandatory travel health insurance requirement effective January 1, 2026: every foreign visitor — including visa-exempt Russians, and including children — must hold accident/health insurance with a minimum coverage of GEL 30,000, valid for the full duration of the stay, and be able to present proof (paper or electronic, in Georgian or English) at the border. Travelers without it risk denial of entry or a fine. Passport should be valid for the period of stay. Because the verdict is visa-free, there are no government visa fees; the only meaningful cost is the now-mandatory insurance policy.
