Russian Federation to Czechia visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Czechia, but tourism is effectively closed: Czechia does not issue short-stay Schengen tourist visas to Russian nationals and bars Russians from entering for tourism, sport or cultural purposes even on a Schengen visa issued by another EU state. A short tourist trip is not possible under current rules. Czechia is a Schengen member, so a Russian ordinary passport holder would normally need a Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa, valid for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. However, in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Czechia has applied special restrictions since October 2022. The Czech Republic does not issue short-stay tourist visas to Russian nationals, and it prohibits entry of Russian citizens for tourism, sport or cultural purposes regardless of which Schengen state issued their visa. Only narrow categories of Schengen visa applications are accepted (e.g. family members of EU/Czech citizens, certain dissidents in the Civil Society Programme, family unification, some Belarusian students). Since 3 July 2024 Czechia recognizes only biometric Russian passports for entry. From 30 September 2025 Russians may apply for a Czech Schengen visa only at the consular section of the Czech Embassy in Moscow (the Russia-based VFS visa centres were closed). On 8 November 2025 the EU further limited Russian nationals to single-entry Schengen visas. Bottom line: a routine short tourist visit is not available to ordinary Russian passport holders; the verdict is visa-required and, for tourism purposes, effectively refused. Where an eligible non-tourist category applies, the standard short-stay Schengen visa fee is EUR 80 with a processing time of about 15 calendar days (up to 45 in complex cases).
