Q: Does my passport need six months validity?

For visa-free entry, the Embassy FAQ requires an ordinary passport valid for at least the intended stay in China. CVASC separately warns visa applicants that passports with less than six months validity risk refusal, so six months remains a safer travel buffer.

Q: Can I stay longer than 30 days?

If you plan to stay over 30 days, apply for the correct visa before entering China. If a legitimate need to stay longer arises after visa-free entry, apply to the local exit-entry administration for a stay permit before the 30 days expire.

Q: Does this cover Hong Kong and Macau?

No. This unilateral visa-free policy is for mainland China. Hong Kong and Macau maintain separate entry rules.

Romanian ordinary passport holders can visit mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business, family or friends visits, exchange, or transit through 31 Dec 2026. As of 21 June 2026, Romanian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for qualifying short visits to mainland China. China extended its unilateral visa-free policy for Romania and 44 other countries to 24:00 on 31 December 2026 by notices published by the Chinese Embassy in Romania on 3 November 2025 and CVASC Bucharest on 4 November 2025. Eligible purposes are business, tourism, family or friends visits, exchange, and transit, with stays of no more than 30 days. The National Immigration Administration list updated on 17 February 2026 includes Romania and says the stay is counted from 00:00 on the day following entry. The Embassy FAQ says no advance declaration to a Chinese embassy or consulate is required, multiple visa-free entries are currently permitted without a stated cap on total days, and border officers may ask for supporting documents such as invitation letters, air tickets, and accommodation reservations. The waiver covers ordinary passports valid for at least the intended stay; temporary, emergency, and other non-ordinary documents are not covered. Work, study, news coverage, and similar purposes still require the appropriate visa before travel. The policy is for mainland China; Hong Kong and Macau have separate entry rules.
