Do Philippines passport holders need a visa to visit NL?
Philippine ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit the Netherlands for tourism. Apply in advance through VFS Global in Makati or Cebu. The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area, and the Philippines is not on the Schengen visa-exempt list. Filipino citizens holding an ordinary passport must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before travelling for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are lodged in person at a VFS Global Visa Application Centre in Makati (Manila) or Cebu after booking an appointment; biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are collected for first-time or expired-biometric applicants. The standard visa fee is EUR 90, plus a VFS Global service fee. Processing typically takes about 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days, so apply well ahead (up to 6 months before travel, and no later than 15 days before departure). Because the Philippines is not visa-free for Schengen, the ETIAS travel authorisation does NOT apply — that scheme is only for visa-exempt nationalities. Note that the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became operational on 10 April 2026, replacing manual passport stamps with digital biometric records at the border.
