🇵🇭PHILIPPINES🇨🇦CANADAPH-CA Do Philippines passport holders need a visa to visit Canada?
Philippine ordinary passport holders generally need a Temporary Resident (visitor) Visa to enter Canada. Since 27 December 2025, "known traveller" Filipinos — those who currently hold a valid US non-immigrant visa OR have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years — can instead apply for a cheap eTA (CAD 7) for air travel only. A Filipino tourist visiting Canada must, by default, obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV / visitor visa) before travelling — this requires biometrics and a CAD 100 application fee plus CAD 85 biometrics (CAD 185 total). A major change took effect on 27 December 2025: the Philippines was added to Canada's partial visa-waiver list, so eligible Filipinos can fly to Canada with only an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA, CAD 7). However, the eTA is limited to "known travellers" who either currently hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or have been issued a Canadian visitor visa in the previous 10 years, and it applies to arrivals by air only — entry by land or sea still requires a TRV sticker. Travellers who do not meet the known-traveller criteria must still apply for a full visitor visa. Because most first-time travellers will not qualify for the eTA, the conservative default verdict is visa-required, with the eTA presented as the faster, cheaper alternative for those who qualify.
