New Zealand to Finland visa requirements

New Zealand ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Finland. As a Schengen state, Finland admits New Zealanders visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No visa or ETIAS is required as of 30 May 2026 — ETIAS is only expected to launch in late 2026. Finland is a member of the Schengen Area, and New Zealand is on the EU's list of visa-exempt third countries. A New Zealand ordinary passport holder may therefore enter Finland (and the wider Schengen Area) for tourism, business or family visits without a visa for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. The passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the previous 10 years. At the border, travellers may be asked to show a return/onward ticket, proof of sufficient funds, and accommodation details. Working is not permitted on this visa-free entry. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to become operational in late 2026; once live, visa-exempt nationals — including New Zealanders — will need an approved ETIAS authorisation (EUR 7, valid up to 3 years) before travelling. As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is NOT yet required, so no pre-travel authorisation is needed today. Travellers should re-check the official EU travel portal before departure as the launch date approaches.
