New Zealand ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Spain. As of 30 May 2026, a New Zealand ordinary passport holder can travel to Spain for tourism without any visa or pre-travel authorisation, staying up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area combined. This is confirmed by the New Zealand government's official SafeTravel advisory, which states New Zealanders currently enter Schengen visa-free. The only upcoming change is ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System), a quick online pre-travel authorisation (not a visa) expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026. Until ETIAS becomes mandatory, no application is required. Travelers should carry a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from Schengen and proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds, as the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) records border crossings biometrically.
