New Zealand to Switzerland visa requirements

New Zealand ordinary passport holders can travel to Switzerland visa-free for tourism, for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. No visa is needed as of 30 May 2026. Switzerland is part of the Schengen area, and New Zealand is on the Schengen visa-exempt list. NZ ordinary passport holders may enter for tourism or short visits without a visa and stay up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. In addition, a bilateral visa-waiver agreement between Switzerland and New Zealand lets NZ passport holders spend up to 90 days in Switzerland specifically, independent of time already spent elsewhere in Schengen (with conditions: you must hold credible proof of the Swiss stay and exit the Schengen area directly from a Swiss external border). Two systems are changing the experience: the Entry/Exit System (EES), which began operating at external Schengen borders on 12 October 2025 and digitally registers entries/exits with biometrics; and ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, a pre-travel electronic authorisation that will become required for visa-exempt nationals (including New Zealanders) once it goes live, expected in the last quarter of 2026. As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is NOT yet mandatory, so no authorisation or fee applies today — but travelers should plan for it later in the year. Passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the last 10 years.
