New Zealand ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Belgium for tourism. You may stay in the Schengen Area, including Belgium, for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. Belgium is part of the Schengen Area, and New Zealand is on the EU's visa-exempt list for short stays. As of 30 May 2026, NZ ordinary passport holders can enter Belgium for tourism, business, or family visits without any prior visa, for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date and have been issued within the previous 10 years. At the border you may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds, accommodation, and a return or onward ticket. Two upcoming EU systems affect this route: the Entry/Exit System (EES), which began phased rollout in late 2025 and registers biometric data (fingerprints and photo) of non-EU travellers at the border (no application or fee), and ETIAS, a pre-travel online authorisation expected to become operational in the last quarter of 2026. ETIAS is NOT a visa and is NOT yet required as of this verification date; once live it will cost EUR 20, be valid up to 3 years, and must be obtained online before travel. For now, no advance authorisation is required.
