New Zealand to Austria visa requirements

New Zealand ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist stays in Austria. You may stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area visa-free. Austria is part of the Schengen Area, and New Zealand is on the EU's visa-exempt list for short stays. As of 30 May 2026, a New Zealand ordinary passport holder can enter Austria for tourism without a visa and stay up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period — a limit shared across all Schengen countries combined. No advance travel authorisation is currently required: the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation (a €20 online pre-screening, valid 3 years, NOT a visa) is scheduled to launch in Q4 2026 and is not yet mandatory. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026, so on first entry you will have your facial image and fingerprints recorded at the border and passport stamping has ended. Carry a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure and be ready to show onward/return tickets and proof of sufficient funds.
