Norway to Japan visa requirements

Norwegian passport holders can visit Japan visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, visits, transit, or unpaid short business activities. No eVISA or JESTA is required in 2026; Visit Japan Web is optional and free. Norwegian ordinary passport holders are on Japan's visa-exemption list and are normally granted up to 90 days as Temporary Visitors for tourism, visiting relatives or friends, recreation, conferences, unpaid meetings, and other non-remunerative short business activities. Japan's Embassy in Norway confirms Norwegian nationals do not need a temporary visitor visa for eligible stays of up to 90 days, but landing permission remains at the discretion of Japanese immigration and travelers should be ready to show onward or return travel, host or accommodation details, and sufficient funds. Visit Japan Web is a free official arrival service for immigration and customs preparation; it is not a visa, eVISA, or travel authorization, and paper/manual customs procedures remain available. Japan eVISA is for eligible visa-required travelers and excludes people already exempt from short-term visas. Japan's planned JESTA electronic travel authorization is targeted for fiscal year 2028 in official tourism-policy materials, but it is not active for 2026 travel. Work, long-term study, journalism/media activity, residence, or stays over 90 days require the appropriate Japanese visa/status before travel. Norwegian citizens aged 18-30 who reside in Norway may apply separately for Japan's Working Holiday visa, which allows a stay of up to one year with incidental work.
