Netherlands to Sweden visa requirements

No visa is required. Netherlands citizens have full EU free movement rights and can live, work, and travel in Sweden indefinitely with just a valid passport or national ID card. The Netherlands and Sweden are both European Union member states and part of the Schengen Area, so a Dutch ordinary passport holder enjoys the EU right to free movement. There is no visa, no eVisa, and no entry authorisation required for any length of stay in Sweden, whether for tourism, business, study, or work. A valid Netherlands passport or national identity card is sufficient to enter; passport stamping and the Schengen 90/180-day short-stay limit do NOT apply to EU citizens. Likewise, EU citizens are completely exempt from ETIAS, the new EU travel authorisation launching in late 2026 (it applies only to visa-exempt non-EU nationals). For stays exceeding three months, Dutch citizens do not need a residence permit but may register their right of residence with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to obtain a personal identity number (personnummer) for access to services. In short, this is the simplest possible cross-border scenario: arrive with ID, stay as long as you like.
