Netherlands to Nicaragua visa requirements

Dutch (Netherlands) ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Nicaragua. You may enter visa-free for up to 90 days. You only need to buy a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) for US$10 in cash on arrival. EU citizens, including the Dutch, kept their visa-exempt status after Nicaragua's February 2026 visa overhaul (Decree 002-2026). As of mid-2026, the Netherlands (NL) ordinary passport remains on Nicaragua's visa-exempt list, so no advance visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival application is required for a short tourist visit. Dutch travelers receive a 90-day stay on entry and must purchase a US$10 tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) at the airport or land border, payable in US dollars cash. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. Nicaragua significantly reformed its visa rules on 16 February 2026 via Decree 002-2026, eliminating visa-on-arrival for dozens of nationalities and imposing "consulted visas" (prior authorization from Managua) on more than 120 mostly African, Asian, and Caribbean nationalities. However, the reform explicitly preserved visa-free entry for nationals of the European Union, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, and Australia. Therefore the Netherlands is unaffected and the verdict is visa-free. Travelers should carry proof of onward/return travel and evidence of sufficient funds, as these can be requested by immigration. Stays can be extended by 30 days for a fee at the Nicaraguan immigration office (Migracion y Extranjeria) in Managua. Because Nicaragua's policy is in active flux in 2026, it is wise to reconfirm with a Nicaraguan consulate or the IATA Travel Centre shortly before departure.
