Netherlands to New Caledonia visa requirements

No visa is required. As an EU citizen, a Netherlands passport holder enjoys freedom of movement to New Caledonia and may enter visa-free with no maximum stay limit for tourism. New Caledonia is a French overseas collectivity (a "sui generis" territory) in the South Pacific. It is part of the French Republic but is NOT in the Schengen Area and applies its own visa policy separate from metropolitan France. Because the Netherlands is an EU member state, Dutch nationals benefit from EU freedom of movement and may enter, stay and reside in New Caledonia without a visa for an unlimited period for tourism. There is no Schengen 90/180 cap for EU citizens and ETIAS does not apply (ETIAS is a metropolitan-Schengen scheme, and EU nationals are exempt from it in any case). Travelers still need a valid passport, and travel insurance is mandatory. Note that while tourism is unrestricted, taking up employment or long-term residence requires a local work/residence permit. Following the 2024 unrest, normal entry through La Tontouta International Airport (NOU) has resumed, but travelers should monitor the French Foreign Ministry and local advisories for any temporary security measures.
