Netherlands to Sri Lanka visa requirements

Netherlands passport holders need a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to visit Sri Lanka for tourism. It is mandatory and must be obtained online before arrival; the fee was waived for the Netherlands and 39 other countries on 25 May 2026. Dutch citizens holding an ordinary passport cannot enter Sri Lanka without prior authorization, but they no longer pay a visa fee. As of 25 May 2026, the Netherlands is one of 40 nationalities granted a free tourist ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) valid for 30 days with double-entry permission. The ETA is still compulsory and must be applied for and approved online before boarding a flight to Sri Lanka, as it cannot be obtained on arrival. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival and should carry proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, and accommodation. The free-ETA scheme covers tourism and short private visits only; business, work, investor, and other categories are excluded and remain chargeable. Although the ETA carries no fee for Dutch nationals, applicants should apply only through the official government portal (eta.gov.lk) to avoid third-party agent service charges. Sri Lanka is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
