Netherlands to United Kingdom visa requirements

Dutch citizens do not need a visa for the UK, but since 2 April 2025 they must hold an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling for tourism or short visits. Enforcement is now full (as of 25 February 2026). Netherlands ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for short visits to the United Kingdom but require a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The ETA scheme applies to European visa-exempt visitors, and full enforcement began on 25 February 2026: carriers can prevent passengers from boarding if they do not have an ETA, eVisa or other valid permission. The ETA is digitally linked to your passport, currently costs GBP 20, and is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It permits multiple entries, each visit up to 6 months, and covers tourism, business, visiting family/friends, short study, landside airport transit, permitted paid engagements and certain creative activities. Apply via the official 'UK ETA' app or on GOV.UK; most decisions are quick, but GOV.UK says to allow up to 3 working days. The UK is not in the Schengen Area, so Schengen 90/180 and EU ETIAS rules do not apply to UK trips. Travel only with the passport used in the ETA application.
