Netherlands to Bulgaria visa requirements

No visa is required. As a Dutch (EU) citizen, you have full freedom of movement and can enter Bulgaria for tourism with just a valid national ID card or passport. The Netherlands and Bulgaria are both European Union member states, so Dutch nationals enjoy full EU freedom of movement when traveling to Bulgaria. No visa, eVisa, or pre-travel authorisation is needed for tourism or any short visit. You may enter using either a valid Netherlands national identity card (ID) or a valid Dutch passport. Since 1 January 2025, Bulgaria is a full member of the Schengen Area: air, sea and land internal border checks with the rest of Schengen have been abolished, so in normal conditions you will not face systematic passport checks on arrival from another Schengen country. The Schengen 90-days-in-180 short-stay rule and the upcoming ETIAS authorisation apply only to non-EU (third-country) nationals — they do NOT apply to EU citizens such as Dutch passport holders. You can stay up to 3 months with no formalities; for stays beyond 90 days you simply register your residence locally and must meet standard conditions (worker, self-employed, student, or sufficient means). Always carry your valid travel document, as occasional police or temporarily reintroduced border checks can occur.
