Do Mexico passport holders need a visa to visit SE?
Mexican ordinary passport holders can travel to Sweden visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. No visa or ETIAS is required as of 30 May 2026. Mexico is on the EU's visa-exempt list (Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806), so Mexican ordinary passport holders may enter Sweden — a full Schengen member — without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, for tourism, business, family visits, or transit. The 90-day allowance is shared across the entire Schengen area, not per country. As of 30 May 2026 no pre-travel authorisation is needed: the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is live (biometric registration at the border), but ETIAS has not yet launched. ETIAS is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period before it becomes mandatory (around 2027); once required, Mexican travellers will need an approved ETIAS (20 EUR fee, valid 3 years or until passport expiry, free for under-18s and over-70s) before boarding. Until then, a valid passport plus standard supporting documents (return ticket, proof of funds, accommodation, travel insurance) is sufficient. Border officers may still ask for these at entry.
