Do Mexico passport holders need a visa to visit Italy (Schengen)?

No visa needed. Mexican ordinary passport holders can enter Italy visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. Mexico is a Schengen visa-exempt country, so an ordinary Mexican passport holder may travel to Italy for tourism or short visits without a visa for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This allowance is shared across all Schengen states, not Italy alone. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and have been issued within the previous 10 years. At the border you may be asked to show proof of accommodation, return/onward travel, sufficient funds, and travel insurance. Two systems affect this route in 2026: the Entry/Exit System (EES), which is operational and registers your biometric data (fingerprints and facial image) at the border in place of passport stamps; and ETIAS, the new pre-travel authorisation, which is NOT yet required as of 30 May 2026. ETIAS is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 and become mandatory in 2027 — once live, Mexicans will need a EUR 20 online authorisation before travel, but it remains visa-free travel, not a visa. For now, no application is required.
